Message from the President

Women Art for Peace

Her Presence In Colors VIII- International Women Artists Exhibition – Beijing 2008  will soon be held at the China  National Gallery on April 11 to April 25 2008, 147  women artists from different part of the world of different nationalities, cultural, religious and ethnic backgrounds exhibit together under one roof. The Theme “Dream of Peace” reflects a vision of global unity and peace.  This exhibition in commemoration with the 15th Anniversary of Her Presence In Colours Exhibition demonstrates the theme of the 2008 Olympic:  “One World, One Dream.

The aims of "Her Presence in Colours" exhibition series are: To provide a platform for women artists of different cultures and nations of the world, to exhibit together for cultural interaction and goodwill and to allow an opportunity for people to gain access into the innermost thoughts and feelings of the individual and their common aspirations in relation to life, art and aesthetic.

I remember 15 years ago, when Conservatory of Fine Arts initiated the first Her Presence In Colours Exhibition held at the Gallery of the Central Academy of Fine Arts, Beijing  in July 1993,  only 7 women artists were involved. They are: Nancy Koh Lee and Alyisa Lee (Hongkong), Yuen Chee Ling, Sylvia Lee Goh and Sharifah Fatimah Syed Zubir (Malaysia) and Lin Lin Lan and Chen Chiu Jhin (Taiwan). The exhibition was jointly presented by Conservatory of Fine Arts, women Arts associates and the Gallery of The Central Academy of Fine Arts. It was supported by the Malaysia Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports, Penang State Government and The China People’s Friendship Association. Due to the overwhelmed success of this first Her Presence In Colours Exhibition, we have decided to continue the mission.

To date, Conservatory of Fine Art/ INWAC has organized 7 successfully exhibitions at Suan Prakkad  Palace Museum – Bangkok in 1999, Clock Tower Gallery – Sheffield in 2002,  Manningham Gallery – Melbourne in 2004  and Daegu Cultural Art Center – Korea in 2006.  The establishment of the International Women Artists Council (INWAC), a global network with sub-centers (INWAA) at Thailand, Australia, United Kingdom, USA, Korea, China, Taiwan and Vietnam is to assist matters relating to exhibitions.

The art conference: Women Art for Global Unity, Peace and Progress to be held at the conference room of China National Art Gallery allows the international women artists to

Discuss their ideas and insights related to the topic. The invited speakers are the Chairperson of the various sub-centers. An exclusive exhibition catalogue to document the exhibition and its related events will be published. We have also invited Press and TVs to cover for this meaningful event.

We hope that this art event that promote the concept of goodwill, unity and respect  through women art will contribute meaningfully towards strengthening the meaning of peace and harmony.
