Ann-Maree Gentile

Blackbird Singing in the Dead of Night (self)
Clay and underglaze colours

30cm x 22cm x 13cm

Born in Melbourne, Australia in 1966 with formal studies in ceramics and a BA in Aboriginal Studies. I enjoy making art from whatever is on hand, often experimenting with different materials. I guess more than anything I derive I deep sense of joy when creating something. There¡¯s a strong pop influence in my art, whimsy and a sense of the ridiculous which people respond to. I like the idea that everything that I¡¯ve ever created and all the skills I have amassed have contributed to what I make now and into the future. It makes the successes and the failures worth the effort.

Artist Statement
Oscar Wilde once said ¡°art is the most intense mode of individualism the world has ever known.¡± There is a piece of me in everything I create. You can¡¯t take me out of my art.
